Kirkland Knews from southern West Virginia!
We are making a successful transition from the tropical climate of Puerto Rico to the mountainous terrain of southern West Virginia. Our family is doing well even though we have felt cold all summer. West Virginia is beautiful! We live less than 1 mile from a shopping mall. Everyone speaks English. Our children are making Christian friends. College is going well; Blue Ridge Mountains; Shenandoah River; almost Heaven. Hey! That would make a good song!
Seriously, we believe we have seen God's hand at work in bringing us to this place of service with Appalachian Bible College. I (Dennis) am finding teaching on a college-level to be challenging as well as rewarding. As a pastor I always wanted everyone to "want more." Now, young people who "want more" surround me! I am serving as the Missions Program Coordinator. I teach missions classes as well as world religions. Next semester I will teach OT Prophets, Cultural Anthropology, and Worldviews. It is exciting to be here and to be teaching! Praise the Lord!
We are renting a small house on campus. But, we are excited to tell you that we will move into a new modular home soon. We are purchasing a two-bedroom modular home that will be placed above a full-size basement. Our plans are to finish two bedrooms and a bathroom downstairs as soon as possible. Our home will be within walking distance of the college. We look forward to having enough space to invite students and faculty over for fellowship. We are grateful and thankful!
We are also grateful and thankful to the Lord for you who support us financially. The college is a missionary endeavor seeking to train future pastors, missionaries, and schoolteachers. One reason why ABC's tuition is lower than most Christian Colleges is that we (the faculty) are missionaries. Half of our salary comes from supporters. We are grateful for those who have continued to support us even though we are not overseas anymore. Our needed support level is $1000 per month. We are at the 72% mark now.
Let me share one particular need. I need a laptop computer. I do have a college computer for the office but I need one with mobility. If you have an unused one in a closet -one that will run PowerPoint, I could put it to good use.
We believe in what ABC is doing! We love equipping future pastors and church-planting missionaries! Checkout our web site (www.abc.edu) to see more of the college. My photo will be on the faculty page soon I'm told. I have been assured that there's no hidden message in the fact that my picture is not there yet. Our address is PO Box ABC, Bradley, WV 25818.
We are grateful to be your missionaries training missionaries. Our newest prayer card is included in this letter. Yes, Daniel and Paul are that big.
Daniel will be driving soon. Post us on the refrigerator door and pray for us as the Lord prompts you.
Joyfully Serving Him,
Dennis, Lora, Daniel, Paul, Abigail, Deborah, Joseph, and Nathan Kirkland
