Wilfried grew up in Hamme. After completing high school he joined the merchant marines and traveled the world on Belgian ships. He ended up in America, where he met and married Faye. He had never heard the message of the gospel in Belgium, but through the testimony of Faye and her family he came to faith in Christ. After two years in America they moved to Belgium. Wilfried was still very young in the faith, and they started to look for an evangelical church so that they could receive sound teaching and grow spiritually.
The search for a church was to have a profound impact on their lives. Nobody had heard of the kind of church they were looking for. Various cults were suggested and for six months their inquires only led to disappointments. Then came a great discovery. They found a small BEM church 15 miles away. After experiencing the spiritual wealth of Bible-believing churches in Faye's country, Wilfried was saddened to realize how few churches there were in Belgium, and committed his life to bringing the gospel to his own people.
Wilfried started to study and to get involved in the BEM's program of planting churches. The Belgian Bible institute provided him with training in Bible doctrines and evangelism. After Wilfried’s graduation (1981), Faye and Wilfried started a church planting work and were instrumental in starting churches in Geraardsbergen, Aalst and Hamme. Wilfried was also involved in coaching several other church-planting projects.
In 1996, Wilfried became one of the directors for B.E.M. and three years ago Wilfried became chairman of the directors committee of BEM. Although Wilfried and Faye are still involved in church planting, more and more emphasis, in the ministry of Wilfried, is put on giving leadership to the mission and coaching other BEM workers and projects.
