We believe that the purposes for which the Spirit gives ministry gifts to believers are described in Ephesians 4:12-16 and that the gift of tongues was, like the gifts of apostleship and prophecy, given for the founding of the Church (I Cor. 14:21-22; Eph. 2:20; Heb. 2:3-4) and is therefore not being given today. While we recognize that God may give any gift to the church at any time, we believe that the current resurgence of the practice of tongues is not the Scriptural gift of tongues.
Christians are called to a holy life of service and testimony in the power of the Holy Spirit, which service includes the propagation of the Gospel message to the whole world. There is promised reward in heaven for faithfulness in such service (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 1:8; I Cor. 3:12-17; I Peter 1:15-16).
The Scriptural ordinances of Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are for all believers in Christ (Matt. 28:19-20; Acts 8:12, 36-38; I Cor. 11:23-26).
